Make a Donation to the ACHA

There are many ways to give to the American Catholic Historical Association. Please read on for a summary of the various ways you can help us carry on our mission of supporting the field of Catholic studies. You can contact the Development Office at acha@fordham.edu or call 718-817-3830. We would also encourage you to discuss your gift plan with your tax advisor.
Secure Online Donation
Online donation is the quickest and easiest giving method. Simply enter the amount you wish to donate in the box below and click “Donate.”
The ACHA is a part of Google Checkout’s program which allows donations made to us and other non-profit organizations to be processed nearly free of charge. This means that 100 percent of your donation goes to the ACHA. Rest assured that your credit card information is protected by Google’s industry-leading security.
Gifts of Cash
Your gift in the form of cash or checks postmarked by December 31st can help reduce your 2009 federal and possibly state income taxes. If you itemize your gift is fully deductible up to 50% of your adjusted gross income.
Gift of Stock
Donating appreciated stock has many advantages. Stock owned for a long term period and transferred by December 31st can reduce any capital gains on the increase value of that stock. You may also receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift.
Gifts of Real Estate
Even in the downturn of the housing market many individuals still have significant appreciation in their homes, vacation homes, land or farms. Making a gift of real estate can save taxes on what could be a sizable capital gain on that property. Giving your property to the ACHA you will receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the property.
Gifts of Life Insurance
By naming the ACHA both the owner and the beneficiary of your policy you may receive a charitable deduction equal to the cash value at the time of the gift. In addition if you are still making premium payments on the policy those future premium payments will be deductable each tax year. Contact your insurance professional for information and details.
Individual Retirement Accounts
If you are 70 ½ and have an IRA you may contribute up to $100,000 directly from your account to the ACHA. Gifts made through IRA’s to ACHA are not taxed as income to you and represent a way to make a tax free gift.
Bequests
Please consider giving the ACHA a charitable bequest in your will. We ask you to consider this long-term tax saving opportunity. Do you have a will? Every adult should have a carefully planned will based on his or her estate, no matter what the value of your assets.
Your will is one of the most important documents you will ever sign. It will enable you to:
- Memorialize yourself and other loved ones
- Contribute to the financial security of your loved ones
- Minimize taxes your estate will owe
- Benefit charities whose missions you believe in
- Distribute assets accumulated during your lifetime.
There are several types of bequests you can make in your will: general, specific, residuary and contingent. The most common type of bequest to charities is residuary or contingent. If you would like more information on these types of planned gifts, please contact the Development Office at development@achahistory.org or call 202-319-5079. When requesting information by email, please type Wills & Bequests in the subject line.
Each gift is a share in the important work of the ACHA, and through your support, we are able to continue to develop new forums for Catholic studies.
