ACHA Spring 2011 Meeting in Toronto

Registration and Overview
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN. REGISTER NOW!
The Spring 2011 Conference of the ACHA will be held at the University of Saint Michael’s College in the University of Toronto from April 15-16, 2011. This is the second conjoint conference with the Canadian Catholic Historical Association, whose English sector is based at Saint Michael’s College. Online registration for the Conference will begin September 1, 2010
The theme of the 2011 Conference is “Catholics Across Boundaries: Local or International Church, Missions, Wars, Immigration Issues, Fighting Communism.”
Hotel Rate Update
Great news from Sutton Place Hotel!! If you have already booked a room anywhere or with the Sutton Place Hotel this affects you, too!
The Sutton Place Hotel has just further reduced our daily rate from $150. per night to $125. per night. This was offered to us because the CCHA will ultimately be responsible for any rooms blocked out for us but not booked by April 14th. As of today, we have not met half of the expected reservations and therefore will be asked to purchase the remaining rooms! Anyone who has already booked with the Sutton Place Hotel will also receive the lowered rate provided our reservations increase to 80% of the commitment.
Therefore, if you have booked elsewhere at this rate or higher, please seriously consider cancelling your room and moving to the Sutton Place. It is a grand hotel and as mentioned before, closest to our conference. If you would like to stay at the Sutton Place, but $125. per night is still higher than you are currently committed to, please email me to make suitable arrangements for the difference. We would rather have the rooms filled than pay for empty ones.
This note is directed to everyone currently registered at the CCHA/ACHA Joint Conference but especially directed our students and presenters! If anyone would like to share a room with two double beds or if you know of someone with whom you would like to share, please let our CCHA/ACHA assistant Valerie Burke know (at valerieburke@rogers.com) and she will respond immediately to start trying to accommodate those requests.
On behalf of the Committee for the CCHA/ACHA Joint Conference, we look forward to being together and seeing you in April!

Accommodations
The Sutton Place Hotel is delighted to provide accommodations for the Joint Conference of the CCHA and ACHA in Toronto in April 2011. The Sutton Place Hotel is Toronto’s only residential-style luxury hotel, centrally located in the city near arts and entertainment venues, and is one block from the University of St Michael’s College. The hotel has reserved 40 hotels rooms at the discount rate of $150 (normally $185) for conference members from 14 to 16 April 2011 on a first come first served basis. To be sure that rooms are available, the hotel asks that reservations be made at least 30 days before the conference by March 14th: Tel. 416 924-9221; Fax 416 324-5617; web site registration at www.suttonplace.com or e-mail lkelso@suttonplace.com. The CCHA/ACHA block code for your reservation at the Sutton Place Hotel is TO110414JO.Travel
Toronto is easily accessible by air, train, or bus. Pearson International Air Terminal is approximately $60 by taxi to the hotel or university. Arriving by air to Pearson, it is easiest to catch a city bus #192, “the Red Rocket”, which for $3 (cash) will take you to the subway station, and the subway car to the Wellesley-Yonge Street station which is two blocks from the Sutton Place Hotel walking west. Arriving by train, take the subway from Union Station to the Wellesley-Yonge Street station and walk west two blocks. Bus travel would be similar.
