Roy Palmer Domenico

Dr. Domenico is professor of history and chair of the Department of History at the University of Scranton. He holds a B.A. in history with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, an MA in modern European history from University of Connecticut, and a PhD in modern European history from Rutgers University. He taught at Moore College of Art (1986-87), Upsala College (1987-92), and Truman State University (1992-97) before joining the faculty of The University of Scranton in 1997.
Professor Domenico is editor (with Mark Hanley) of the Encyclopedia of Modern Christian Politics, 1789-present (Greenwood, 2006). He specializes in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Europe with an emphasis on Italy and Catholic nations. He has written “For the Cause of Christ Here in Italy: Evangelical America’s Holy Mission in Italy and the Cultural Ambiguities of the Cold War,” Diplomatic History 29, no. 4 (September 2005); The Regions of Italy, A Reference Guide to History and Culture (2002); and Italian Fascists on Trial, 1943-1948 (1991).
He received a Fulbright Senior Research Award for Italy (spring 2005) as well as the Helen and Howard R. Marraro Prize from the Society for Italian Historical Studies for Italian Fascists on Trial, 1943-1948. Professor Domenico served as president of the Society for Italian Historical Studies (2007-09). His present research includes a monograph, The Devil and the Dolce Vita, on Catholic cultural politics in Italy from 1948 until 1980.
